Pittston, PA, settled in 1770 by famout British statesman William Pitt the Elder, is located on the east side of the Susquehanna River and south side of the Lackawanna River in the Wyoming Valley. Pittston became a borough in 1853 and coal mining was the predominant industry of the area.
Today, Pittston is known for the Pittston Tomato Festival. Known as “The Quality Tomato Capital of the World”, Pittston residents and tomato (and fun) lovers from all over attend the annual festivities that include entertainment, rides, a tomato tasting contents, best looking and ugliest tomato contest, and of course tomato fights.
