HKQ Attorney Honored by Legal Assistance Group With Distinguished Service Award

Attorney Richard S. Bishop, a principal at Hourigan, Kluger & Quinn, will be honored by Lackawanna Pro Bono Inc. with its annual Robert W. Munley Distinguished Service Award for helping to provide legal assistance to clients in civil matters who cannot afford to hire a lawyer.
Attorney Bishop will receive the award at this year’s Lackawanna Pro Bono Gala, which will be held Oct. 22 at the Scranton Cultural Center. Other recipients of this year’s Munley Award are Dr. Robert Wright and the Women’s Resource Center. Lackawanna Pro Bono is a nonprofit corporation that recruits volunteer attorneys to provide a broad range of free civil legal services to the poor in Lackawanna County.
Attorney Bishop, who has been a principal of HKQ since 1985, specializes in estate planning and administration, as well as elder law matters, real estate transactions, business transactions and corporate matters for clients in Luzerne, Lackawanna and surrounding counties.
Currently, he serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Penn State Worthington Scranton campus, ARC of Northeastern Pennsylvania, the Salvation Army and the Advisory Board for M&T Bank. He is also vice president and chairman of the Government Affairs Committee for the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce. He is president of Amos Lodge of B’nai B’rith and past president of Temple Israel in Scranton.
A graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, Attorney Bishop earned his law degree from the Temple University School of Law. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, where he serves on its Exceptional Children Lawyer Referral Network and Elder Law Committee; the Lackawanna Bar Association; and the American Bar Association.
