HKQ Attorney Among First To Be Certified
By PBA in Worker’s Compensation Law

Donald Ligrio Personal Injury LawyerAttorney Donald C. Ligorio of the law firm of Hourigan, Kluger & Quinn has been certified by the Pennsylvania Bar Association as a specialist in worker’s compensation law. He is a member of the first class to be certified by the PBA and only one of four attorneys in Luzerne County to hold the certification.

Ligorio had to pass a rigorous examination and demonstrate the required level of skill, expertise and years of practice in order to earn the PBA certification as a Worker’s Compensation Law Specialist. The certification is effective for a period of five years.

“It’s an honor for me to be part of the first group of lawyers to be certified by the PBA in worker’s compensation law,” said Ligorio. “Hopefully, it will help me be an effective advocate for workers who are injured on the job.”

As a principal at HKQ, Ligorio has more than 20 years of experience trying construction injury, work injury, auto accident, medical malpractice and premises liability cases. He has won a number of substantial jury verdicts, including a $2.5 million jury award for a worker injured in a fall at a construction site and a $680,400 verdict for a woman injured in a fall on ice. He has been designated a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in the area of worker’s compensation every year since 2007.

A 1989 graduate of the University of Scranton, Ligorio earned his law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law. He is admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is an active member of the bar associations in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties and the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, where he is a member of the worker’s compensation and auto law sections.

He has also been active with Lackawanna Pro Bono Inc. for more than 10 years, and has been the recipient of numerous pro bono awards for his work representing needy clients free of charge. Ligorio lives in Scranton with his wife, Maria, and three children.
